Reading Group – The Dark Side of Fairytales: Angela Carter’s The Bloody Chamber

Sheffield Gothic are excited to announce our first reading group of this academic year, looking at Angela Carter’s collection The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories (1979). These stories highlight the dark potential of the fairytale, using folklore to explore body horror, feminism, and to reinvestigate the Gothic genre itself.

We’ll be meeting online on Wednesday 10th November between 3-4:30pm. We’ll focus particularly on the short stories ‘The Bloody Chamber’ and ‘The Werewolf’, both of which are available to read online.

If you’re interested in joining the session, just get in touch via SheffieldGothic@gmail.com, or tweet @SheffieldGothic and we will send you a link to our virtual session on Zoom.

As always, everyone is welcome!
